Visual Style

My background in vérité documentary and low budget independent filmmaking has influenced my cinematic aesthetic and informed my vision for She Said/She Said

As an artist, my goal for She Said/She Said is to create a film that feels truthful and realistic, grounded in the world of my characters, and that resonates with its audience on intellectual and visceral levels. The staging, lighting, art direction, framing, camera movement, and sound design are natural and unobtrusive, keeping the viewers’ focus on the actors rather than distracted by overly stylized filmmaking.

True to the ‘dramedy’ tone of the film, and my ultimate goal to write and direct half-hour cable/streaming episodic dramedies and independent films, I take inspiration for the naturalistic look and sound from the character-driven cable/streaming dramedies Looking, Better Things, Fleabag, as well as the independent films Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Band-Aid, Your Sister’s Sister, and Sword Of Trust. These productions make use of real locations, subtle/undetectable lighting, long takes, unpretentious camera angles and movements. My goal is to make the audience forget they are watching a movie and feel like they are living in the space with the characters.
